Laughter Lines
The name laughter lines can refer to the lines and wrinkles that are caused over time, through repeated use of the facial muscles associated with smiling or laughing.
These can occur all over the face, but most commonly around the eyes in the form of crow’s feet, or around the mouth area, running from the nose to the mouth (nasolabial folds) or the mouth to the chin (marionette lines). If you imagine how your face will crease on smiling, these are the areas that will be characterised by the term laughter lines.
Developing laughter lines can be a normal part of the process of ageing, which often begins when a person is in their mid to late 20’s. Although the effects may not be visible for some years, they often start as fine lines that become deeper and more prominent the older we get.
The skin changes appearance due to a series of internal processes: levels of collagen and elastin deplete, hydrating properties decrease, supporting muscles weaken and natural fat pads reduce. As well as this, external contributors including: smoking, alcohol consumption, pollution and poor diet, can help to speed up this process and cause ageing to appear prematurely.
Laughter lines can be considered beautiful as we gracefully age, and they tell the story of a life that has been full of happiness and joy. When they become bothersome and make us appear older than our years then we may wish to treat these little lines so as to aid the restoration of our youthful appearance.
At The Bloom Clinic, we can do this by adding volume to the area to give a smoother appearance to the surface of the skin, rejuvenating the skin’s surface and giving your skin a fantastic boat of hydration to give a refreshed, happy appearance.
