Stubborn Fat
Stubborn fat affects many people and can be very difficult to shift. Any area of the face and body can be affected. However, it mainly causes concern when appearing on the stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, back, arms and under the chin. This concern can mean a person feels out of shape, leading to a lack of body confidence and low self-esteem.
Stubborn fat often refers to subcutaneous fat that accumulates beneath the skin. Although subcutaneous fat is generally easier to reduce with a good diet and regular exercise than visceral fat (fat that builds up deeper in the body), a small pinchable pocket of fat will often remain. A healthy diet and regular exercise will help the body to get the right amount of energy it needs to function and will be able to burn off any excess which would otherwise be stored as fat.
A small amount of body fat is normal and may even be essential for body function. Gaining weight often results from consuming too many calories on a daily basis and not moving enough to use them up. When the body starts to become heavier and larger than desired, a change to your usual regime will often restore a healthy/ideal weight. However, these efforts can lead to frustration when the last few pounds will not disappear, and a pinchable pocket of fat is visible.
It’s important to note that stubborn fat deposits don’t necessarily mean that a person is overweight or unhealthy. When a person has concerns over pockets of stubborn fat, The Bloom Clinic is here to help. Dr Nandi can treat affected areas with Aqualyx, a fat-dissolving injectable treatment. Dermal fillers to the jawline and chin can also help to reduce the appearance of submental fat (“double chin”).
