Facial Redness

Facial Redness

The true cause of rosacea is largely unknown, although it is thought that this common condition may have a hereditary connection. Fairer skin tones tend to be more affected than those with a darker complexion, and the concern can affect men and women of all ages.

Characteristics of rosacea include: facial redness, small pus-filled spots/pustules and flushing of the skin. Sometimes, the skin can itch or burn and may feel sore or warm to the touch. The forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin are the areas mainly affected by rosacea, and the skin can occasionally develop thread veins if the condition has been present for a prolonged period of time.

Rosacea is a long-term condition that causes the face to look red or flushed most of the time. Certain triggers, including spicy food, alcohol, caffeine, sun exposure, hot drinks, cheese and exercise, can exacerbate this condition’s appearance as these factors dilate the blood vessels under the skin. It is common for people who are affected by rosacea to also find their skin is more sensitive than usual. Although rosacea can cause facial redness to be present for some time, it is common for the symptoms to come and go, with impromptu flare-ups.

The appearance of rosacea is often the reason behind seeking treatment. Facial redness, thread veins, and spots can cause embarrassment to the affected person, as well as the need to use cosmetic products to try and conceal the symptoms. At The Bloom Clinic, Dr Nandi can carry out a complete and thorough skin analysis in order to relieve the symptoms of rosacea through a suitable treatment or recommendation of a range of skincare products. A chemical peel helps to resurface the skin and encourage the regeneration of a healthy complexion. However, we would recommend stabilising and improving the skin barrier by using suitable products at home before having these treatments in clinic. By regularly applying the right skincare products recommended by Dr Nandi, such as from medical-grade skincare brands AlumierMD, Obagi Medical, or ZO Skin Health (all available at The Bloom Clinic), skin health can be improved, and in combination with in-clinic treatments, a clear and glowing complexion can be achieved.
