Downturned Mouth
A downturned mouth develops through the ageing process and refers to when the corners of the mouth start to descend, giving the mouth a sad appearance.
In our youth, the lips look full and plump with strong surrounding borders. The lips are supported by firm, structures underneath, but as we age, collagen and elastin are lost from the skin, the skin gets thinner, the underlying bony and fatty layers shrink and move downwards causing the surrounding areas to become weak.
This results in a lack of support to the lips and the corners of the mouth are pulled downwards towards the chin, helped along by the effects of gravity. This condition is often accompanied by creases that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin, also known as marionette lines or mouth to chin lines.
These changes can make an appearance that once looked happy and relaxed look sad and disinterested. The change in the facial outlook as a whole can be misaligned with how someone feels inside and can inadvertently change someone’s perception of you.
This is a very common condition that develops, with people often saying that they feel happy inside but their face tells a different story and they would rather go back to possessing a cheerfully youthful look.
Attending a thorough facial assessment with Dr Nandi, at The Bloom Clinic will enable a suitable treatment plan to be put together. This recommendation will be based on your individual concerns and will aim to fulfil your expected outcomes.
Through the application of dermal fillers, Dr Nandi can restore a youthful look to the mouth as hyaluronic acid and collagen levels are increased and any existing grooves are filled. The positively rejuvenated appearance can once again look brighter, happier and more relaxed.
