Crow’s Feet

Character lines are the lines that appear at the outer corner of the eye taking on the form of a fan, earning them the term ‘crow’s feet’.

Crow’s feet will often start out as fine lines that deepen over time leading to more permanent, deep-set wrinkles. They can also start to creep further down the cheek, giving an aged appearance.

As we age, the skin gets thinner and less elastic which can lead to wrinkles forming, especially in areas where there is a lot of movement. In most cases, crow’s feet lines are due to the repeated movement of the face from smiling, laughing, talking and eating.

Over time, these repeated movements can cause grooves to form in the skin and because ageing skin has less elasticity, the skin does not spring back and instead forms a permanent groove/wrinkle.

The development of crow’s feet can also occur prematurely as a result of sun exposure, smoking or alcohol consumption. These factors can all have a profound effect on the skin and the rate at which the ageing process will progress.

These particular lifestyle choices can contribute to and speed up the rate at which collagen and elastin will naturally break down, weakening the skin’s soft, strong and supple structure.
