Acne
Oily skin, whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and spots are common symptoms of acne.
This inflammatory skin condition most often affects the face, neck, upper chest and back. It is not a condition that will cause harm, but affected people can often feel conscious of its appearance.
Pores, or tiny holes, cover the entire surface of the skin and can easily become blocked by dead skin cells, oil and bacteria. When this type of congestion occurs, it can cause a pimple or ’zit’ to develop – referred to as acne when these spots become repeated and more widespread.
As acne is often seen in adolescents and pregnant women, it is most commonly thought to be associated with hormone changes. Other factors that are considered to contribute can include: foods that are high in refined sugar and carbohydrates, certain medications and genetics.
During periods where the hormone levels in the body can fluctuate, the amount of sebum that is produced can increase and build up, causing subsequent blockages to the pores and the development of acne. These breakouts will often settle and improve greatly as the hormones return to a steadier level.
Acne can often look quite aggressive and visibly noticeable to others, with significant cases often leading to future scarring. A thoughtful routine that ensures regular cleansing and exfoliation of the skin can help to keep the skin healthy and in good condition, preventing significant breakouts.
Dr Nandi can use her expertise to assess your concerns with acne. By recommending the right treatment, it can visibly reduce the appearance and help to prevent any scarring. Available treatments include: chemical peels, facials or medical grade skin care products by AlumierMD and Dermalux LED therapy.
These procedures can help to resurface the skin, restore healthy properties and reduce inflammation for a clearer complexion.
